Name: Utpal Waiba ('Utpal' has different meanings, but generally means 'Lily', 'full of blossom' or 'resembling the lotus', while 'Waiba' also has different meanings but usually comes down to 'Divine' or 'Ideal'. So his full name basically mean 'Divine Lily')

Alias/Nickname: Killer Lily (Even though he is quiet and has average grades, he rejected Erina's cooking and is known for making strange yet delicious foods, therefore taking people by surprise, which is why he gets called 'Killer'. 'Lily' is because of his name.

Personality: Utpal is a mysterious sort of character. His expression never changes and his patience is literally unending. He never loses his cool. Even though he is calm, sensitive, kind and understanding, there’s more to his personality. In the past he’s been quite hurt, which lead to him often stifling his own emotions as to not be a trouble to the people around him and that piles up and when too much piles up, he has a huge breakdown, which can range from him tearing through his house breaking everything in his path to drowning himself in his studies and work. But that’s only happened twice in his life time. Other than that, he’s a really sweet and encouraging person, with good leadership skills and is confident but humble and meek at the same time. But he’s a very very very fussy eater. He can pick up on small details that other people can’t. He tends to not talk unless spoken to (depends on the people around him) and is very blunt about his opinions when they are asked for.

History: Sixth of seven children, Utpal has never really had it easy. With the usual teasing from older brothers without being able to do the same to his younger brother due to him being the baby of the family, Utpal was always a bit of the punching bag of his family, which often used to make him cry but because his parents were so busy with their business, he found himself to be a nuisance and he stifled his pain. Otherwise he had a normal childhood. When he was four, he started helping out with cooking, like the rest of his family in the all-you-can-eat international buffets his parents own, and when he was eight he started to help as a waiter for drinks or cleaning up the tables. However, when he was eleven, in his school, his friends invited him to play basketball. He got into the sport and entered the club. When he became eleven, he told his parents he wanted to become a basketball player. His parents were against that, because they wanted him to become a chef like his brothers. But he insisted on his dream. His parents eventually made a deal with him that if he could graduate from the Totsuki Culinary Academy High school, then he could do whatever he wanted. So he joined the Middle School. In his first week, he met Erina due to being in the same class as her. He found her very cocky and annoying. She wanted him to judge her cooking and when he did he said he found her food boring. She hasn’t forgiven him for that since then. He also met others there, such as Kurokiba, the Aldini brothers, Alice and so on (with whom he is friends with). When he joined the High School, he wasn’t a notable character. He had passed all his classes with average results, even though he could have passed with top grades, but because he didn’t want to be remembered for being in a culinary academy when he became a basketball player, which is what he wanted to really work on, he hid his truly talent. He did the minimum possible but enough to pass his classes as a B grade student.

Plot:
-Introduction Arc:
He wasn’t affected by Yukihira’s words at the opening ceremony, but it did make him instantaneously like him and made him hope they could be friends. He stays at the Polar Star Dormitory,  but he never attends any of their get togethers in Zenji’s room. He later goes speak to Yukihira alone, telling him he hopes they can be friends and that he is willing to help Yukihira with anything he needs, if he can do it.

-Don RS vs Mito Shokugeki:
He attends Yukihira’s Shokugeki with the others, criticising heavily on Mito's meal, calling it 'unfinished' and 'badly thought through' and wasn't surprised when Yukihira won.

-Training Camp Arc:
After the gathering in the main hall, Utpal goes to greet Shinomiya, his godfather, asking him to NOT go easy on him. Shinomiya smirks, telling him he had no intention on going easy on him in the first place.
  The first day, Utpal's first assignment was with Hinako Inui and was paired up with Tsume Hitotose, the only girl nobody would approach. Together, they made a wild herb soup from the surrounding area, which was light to eat yet satisfying, and they both passed. Utpal and Tsume exchanged phone numbers in order to keep in contact.
  The second day, Utpal was speedy in getting the vegetables for the 9 Vegetable Terrine, knowing how Shinomiya's mind works better than any others. He was one of the first to finish, and Shinomiya approved of his dish. Later, Utpal was aware of the Shokugeki between Shinomiya, Megumi and Yukihira, and teased his godfather on being sentimental, to what he got an embarrassed failed retort.
   The Third day, when they got the announcement of the Breakfast Challenge, Utpal knew exactly what he was going to do; Nepalese scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs with fried red onions, exotic spices and fresh coriander, served on toast. Easy to make and stayed warm for a long about of time.
   During the Breakfast Challenge, in Hall A with Megumi, Takumi, Alice, Yukihira and Erina, he finished serving his 200 dishes very quickly, since it was something people new well, but with a different twist, serving 278  servings altogether before he ran out of ingredients. Upon hearing that Yukihira hadn't achieved his goal yet, Utpal did not lose hope, telling Alice that Erina was wrong to taunt Yukihira, since he had no doubt he would come up with an idea, which he did.
  On the final day, Utpal was glad to eat food prepared by Shinomiya, one of the only people whose food he would actually eat. Then he returned with the others to the academy.

-Totsuki Autumn Election Arc
Utpal was among those in the Autumn Elections. He was mildly frustrated because he did not want to be made a fuss of, which the Polar Star students obviously did. When Joichiro came to visit Polar Star dorm, Joichiro recollected knowing Utpal's parents fairly well, and told him that he could easily become one of the elite ten. Utpal replied by saying that that was not his intention, hoping only to graduate. He enjoyed the Yukihiras' cooking failures very much, much to everybody else's surprise.
  For the Preliminary Round, Utpal was in the "A" Block. Unlike the others, he wasn't trying to win the tournament, not actually wanting to be present. But that didn't mean that he wasn't going to try. He decided to make Nepali Goat Curry, his family's favourite curry dish. He cut 5 1/2 pounds bone-in young goat leg into 1 1/2 inch pieces himself, which is usually expected to be done by butchers, not students. Akira Hayama glanced at his work repeatedly, as did Kurokiba, but neither said nothing. He served his curry after Kurokiba did, and the four judges were shocked at the complexity of the smell and taste of the curry. They asked Utpal to list the ingredients, which were mustard oil, kosher salt, garlic cloves, tomatoes, red onions, ginger, fresh green bird's eye chiles (Or Thai chiles), water, fenugreek seeds, star anise, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, dried red chiles, ground turmeric, asafetida, ground cumin, ground coriander, curry powder and cilantro leaves for the garnish, as well as the goat meatwhich is unusual and a side bowl of white rice. The complexity of the curry shocked everybody. He got 90 points for it, but was beaten by Subaru Mimasaka who got 91 points. He was not upset. He congratulated Yukihira, Kurokiba and Hayama for getting through, to which Hayama retorted that he could have easily gotten full points if he had tried harder. Utpal merely smiled, telling him that the three of them actually wanted to win, while he was just there for the ride.
   Through the rest of the tournament, Utpal sat with the Polar Star students, Tsume joining them as well, not really reacting strongly to any of the events that were happening, interested, but not surprised about anything that was happening, as if he already had an idea of what was going to happen.
